Amazon Selling Secrets - Amazons News/Updates

1. Amazon Takes on Google with New Search-Based Shopping Feature

Amazon is beta-testing a new feature that allows search results in the Amazon Shopping app to include links to third-party DTC brand websites. This mirrors Google’s approach to search-driven shopping and could have significant implications for sellers.

How the Feature Works:

  • If Amazon doesn’t sell a product, search results may now show a link to the brand’s website.

  • Currently in beta for select US customers on iOS and Android.

  • Customers receive a pop-up notification before being redirected.

  • If the brand participates in ‘Buy with Prime,’ Prime members can still get benefits like fast shipping.

Implications for Sellers:

  • More Visibility for DTC Brands: Brands selling on their own websites gain exposure to Amazon’s audience.

  • Increased Competition for 3P Sellers: External websites could divert traffic from third-party sellers.

  • Amazon’s Data Strategy: Amazon may be using this to gather customer preference data.

  • Competitive Move Against Google: This positions Amazon as a broader product discovery platform.

  • Potential Future Monetization: Amazon could introduce paid placements or advertising fees.

For sellers, adapting to this shift will be key as Amazon continues to evolve its marketplace strategy.

2. Amazon Inbound Placement Fee Changes for 2025

Amazon is adjusting FBA inbound placement service fees in 2025, affecting how sellers manage inventory shipments. While bulky product sellers benefit, standard-size product sellers face new challenges.

Key Changes:

  1. Lower Fees for Large Bulky-Size Products – Starting January 15, 2025, inbound placement fees for large bulky-size products will decrease by an average of $0.58 per unit.

  2. End of Partial Shipment Splits for Standard-Size Products – From February 20, 2025, sellers must choose between:

    • Minimal Shipment Splits: Pay a fee to send inventory to fewer locations.

    • Amazon-Optimized Shipment Splits: No fee but requires distributing inventory across multiple fulfillment centers.

  3. Fee Waiver for New ASINs in FBA New Selection Program – From December 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, sellers can ship up to 100 units per ASIN without inbound placement fees.

What This Means for Sellers:

  • Sellers who relied on partial shipment splits must now either pay full minimal shipment fees or meet Amazon’s stricter distribution rules.

  • Small and mid-sized sellers may struggle with these changes, as seen in discussions among Amazon consultants and brand owners.

  • Consider alternatives like Amazon Warehousing and Distribution (AWD) to minimize costs and optimize fulfillment.

3. Amazon Increases Remote Fulfillment with FBA Fees in Mexico

Starting April 10, 2025, Amazon is raising Remote Fulfillment fees in Mexico by an average of 4% per unit, citing increased investments in infrastructure and fulfillment operations.

Updated Fees:

  • Small Standard (10+ to 12 oz): MXN 149.28 → MXN 155.25

  • Large Standard (1+ to 1.25 lb): MXN 188.25 → MXN 195.78

  • Large Standard (3+ lbs to 20 lbs): MXN 224.01 + MXN 1.01 per additional 4 oz → MXN 232.97 + MXN 1.05 per additional 4 oz

Impact on Sellers:

  • Though increases seem small per unit, they can significantly affect high-volume sellers.

  • Amazon previously claimed fulfillment costs were stabilizing, making this hike unexpected.

  • Sellers must continuously adjust pricing strategies to stay competitive.

As Amazon evolves, sellers must stay agile and proactive in adapting to these changes.
